The Beach House

Project Overview

Jenny and Neil had been dairy farming in the Waikato for most of their lives. They had been coming to Whangamata on family holidays where they have had a batch for the last 25 years.

Now reaching retirement age they wanted to build a new home on the same site where they could retire and have a comfortable space to host visiting family.

We sat down and discussed our client’s goals and budget for the build making sure we had a good understanding of what was important to them We approached our architect with a detailed brief who began drafting some concept drawings.

After viewing the concept drawings and making some final tweaks, we submitted to the council for consent and broke ground 6 months later.

Architectural and design features

Features include a V-groove plywood ceiling in the living area, burnished polished concrete in the living area and kitchen, and a detached garage clad in Kahu Coloursteel.

Unique elements

High raking soffits, expansive outdoor areas, and full Abodo cladding. The design integrates with the streetscape, cascading down the slope and using simple materials to enhance its form.
